About

The Cabbagetown Youth Centre (CYC) and Boxing Club have a rich history dating back to 1972 when they were established at 2 Lancaster Avenue. Initially founded as a response to the need for positive alternatives for youth, the CYC was transformed into a dynamic community center that harnessed the power of sports, recreation, and education to guide young individuals towards brighter futures. As the years went by, CYC expanded its offerings to encompass a wide array of programs aimed at fostering personal growth, social engagement, and skill development. In a remarkable development, the building was reopened in 2022, now operating under the banner of BGC Toronto Kiwanis (BGCTK). This union was a seamless integration, as both entities shared similar missions and served neighboring communities. The CYC's legacy, including the boxing club established by Peter Wylie in 1972, continued under the guidance of BGCTK, ensuring that the valuable programming and services cherished by participants were carried forward seamlessly. This transition signified a commitment to a shared vision of empowering youth through education, recreation, and positive community engagement.
